My life has changed quite a bit in the last few months! Last time I posted was in August when I was wrapping up the rafting season and starting work at Mt. Princeton Resort. I actually decided to go a different route with my professional choices and ended up as the office manager at a construction company in Salida! It appears that I have stumbled my way back into the 8-5 grind.
I know what you’re thinking… How did you let this happen? You moved to Colorado to ESCAPE the daily grind!
That’s what I ask myself most days. Yes, I did move here to escape the corporate cubicle life. Rafting for the past two summers was the most fun job anyone could ever have. And I basically had a six month vacation spending the winter season on St. John. However, throughout the past two years I haven’t had health care of any kind, or a guaranteed paycheck, or a real place to call home. And no CrossFit… (how did I even survive, right?!)
This fall I decided that some of those things were worth more to me than having fun every day. Yes, I’m aware how lame that sounds. BUT my new job is at a very small company and I am NOT in a cubicle. I have windows! At the same time part of me is definitely wishing I was back on St. John getting tourists tipsy (thanks a lot for reminding me Facebook memories). I have started to develop a “grass is always greener” battle going on in my mind.
But if the past two years have taught me anything, it’s that the grass will probably always seem greener. Life is about balance. Right now I am trying to balance a steady job with doing all the fun Colorado activities that I love in my spare time. I read this quote Friday morning that hit this head on…
“Realize that you do have unlimited potential. It’s a process to create the strength and fortitude to find that. But nobody’s limited. You’re not limited by your job or your current lifestyle. If you want to find your end limits it’s available to do so with a little bit of coaching and a whole lot of hard work.” — CJ Martin
Work hard to find the balance in your life that meets your basic needs and makes you happy. Wherever you are, whatever you choose to do with your life, YOU are responsible for creating your reality. Positive vibes…
